#1
I have a blue box Athearn gp 30 35  38 or 40 that was gave to me that has an odd noise when running in one direction only you can barely  hear it without the shell put the shell  on and its louder , i think that the shell is just acting as a amplifier checked gears and they seem fine wheels axles are tight in the gears. so, I'm at wits end anyone have any ideas?

I would start oiling (or graphite) all the moving parts until it goes away

it's been lubed with never seize (collided nickel in a synthetic oil) been my standard lube for 30+ years.

Shafts tight in the flywheels and running gear? Gotta be motor/shaft/gear interface - that's the only stuff that makes noise unless you got another Gremlin.

the problem is that it's only in one direction I swapped trucks and it's still in the same direction.

well, I finally run down the noise. it was a bad motor mount causing the fly wheel to scrape on t the frame in reverse mode only put a screw into the mount to tighten it up and Wala the noise is gone.
