There, is a name that's been a part of this hobby for well over thirty years now. He will be missed, not only by the Model Railroader staff, but by "model railroaders", just about everywhere.
My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

I'm saddened to hear of andy's passing. I always enjoyed his articles in MR but not have bought an issue in awhile and didn't realize he had health issues.

Andy coined a phrase that sums up why I like model railroading:
Andy Sperandeo Wrote:Mine is the truest form of nostalgia: the fond memory of something never experienced.
Throug his Operators column, I learned a lot about how the real thing worked. He will be missed.

I'm sad to hear this. He helped me with some suggestions on the Passenger Car List yahoo group. I also enjoyed some of the videos on the Model Railroader site.

I must admit that I was more than a little shocked by the news of Andy's passing when I read my Model Railroader e-news letter.
I only came across the news reading about the G & D video and then found the article about him under the Hobby News banner.
For me Andy has always been a part of MR, given he started there in 1979 and I first started reading MR in the Library at school in 1978 or '79, Year 8 or Year 9.
My thoughts are with his family, friends, work mates and everyone who knew Andy. He will be missed.
