OK, we're kind of settled with what we have using the new software. We are trying to get it tailored to feel and work like the old one, but with a few cosmetic updates. Now that we've all had a chance to use it for a few weeks, we need some feedback on what we need to change or add. No guarantees that we can do it, but we'd like you to list anything that you think is missing, doesn't work the way you think it should, or a feature that you can do without. We are open to any and all suggestions, and we will try our best to accommodate those that we can. We are limited to what the software is capable of, but there are some plug-ins that we can use to add or modify features.
I will start things off by suggesting that we should have a link to "List unread posts", like we had with the old phpBB software.

Overall the new software works fine. The only issue I have noticed is that on picture intensive threads clicking on the green arrow will not take you to the first unread post.
Tom
Edit: of course after posting the above I went to Trains on this day in the past and it took me directly to the first unread post. Go figure! I don't know if this has any bearing but I had already looked at that thread earlier this morning. Just trying to report all pertinent (or not) facts.
Edit #2: Just went to the Old Steamers thread (which I had looked at earlier this morning) and it did not take me to the first unread.

The new big blue is fine for me. Thanks a lot for the effort.
May be an easy entry to the first unread with a link to the next unread until I stepped through all unread would be fine.

Don, it seemed to me there was a page that I linked to on the old forum that was my starting point and I think it had all new posts listed and I could set it for up to a couple months. It showed the latest replies and the ones I had all ready read were marked as so. I miss that function and I miss having the last post automatically come up when I go to read a post in a thread. I had my old user cp set so the posts were displayed from last to first and on the long threads this was a great feature. I don't see that option.

I really really hate change but Quite frankly I have had zero problems with the new forum and really haven’t run across anything that needs fixing or changing.

Thanks for all your approval of all the changese. The old software was just that, very outdated and ripe for a major crash, so changing was a necessity. We also had to change servers, and that in itself was a major undertaking by Pat (formally Packey, now flattbear and/or duffy).
Anyway, I have no problems, when I click on the little green arrow (we're looking into making it a bit bigger), I am always taken to the first unread post in that thread. I'll look into maybe there's a setting that needs to be changed. There are literally over 100 different settings in the back room that we can change things, and a bunch in your personal CP that will allow you to tailor a few aspects of the software, so I'll see if there's something that can be done.

There are two settings that may have influence on how you go to the last new post. One I just changed. It kept info on the last viewed post for only 7 days. I changed that to 30. Users also have the option of viewing threads in the "linear mode" or "threaded mode". I'm confused about the threaded mode, it doesn't always show all the posts, so I suggest you make sure you're viewing in the linear mode. You can make the change in your user CP under, "edit options" where you can choose "linear", "threaded", or "default".
Let me know if this makes a difference....

I set mine to "default" and it took me directly to Charlie's newest post in the "Trains on this day" thread. I will continue to test as new posts appear.

Am I missing something? I have a "Portal" link which I find leads to a list of messages in order, which may be what I want to have for my landing page. Is there a way to set it so it only shows the title of the messages instead of the complete message in order for more messages to be displayed on the page? Included screen shots. This is the portal page
can it be made to look like the new post page? :

Charlie, as an admin, I have just few setting available to me for the Portal. that is not one that I can control. I'll check with Pat as see if there are things that he can manipulate or add. Yeah, a summary rather than a full display of the posts would be a good option to have. I don't use the Portal for that reason.

You were able to say it the way I wish I could. Thanks Don

Not sure if this fits the bill on the unread post thingy. I installed a plugin that adds a link at the top of the page. When clicked it will assemble a page(s) with all the unread threads in a nice format. The link even gives you a counter to how many unreads you have. Keep in mind, if you haven't ever cleared out unread threads before, you could wind up with pages of posts. I have over 500 unreads with 20 pages. The nice thing is there's a link at the top-left of the search results page that you can click and it will mark all posts read. Give it a try and see if this is useful.

Well, that works for me. I had 20 pages as well, but I think that's what we've been looking for . Thank you kindly, I shall bookmark that link....

Warning: It does just list the full thread, not take you directly to just the unread post itself. you still have to navigate through the thread to find the post.
I think that's it ...Thanks
