when the desert blooms
#9
We are getting close to the time when the cacti blooms. The blooms last just one day, then fall off and another group may bloom a few days later. This is a cactus that was planted about ten years before this photo was taken. It was in the side yard of a house we sold about ten years ago so I have no idea what it looks like today. At one time I counted 15 flowers booming on it at once. BTW, most cacti do not require any extra water, I have several large ones in my front yard now and the only water they get is when it rains. So it's true, if you are stranded in the desert without water, you can cut into a cactus to get life-saving moisture.
