I believe those PC hoppers were both for sand service, yes? Cool shots!

Ralph,
I never noticed, but I would bet that is what the big "S" means.
Now where is your PC picture? We have been waiting for you. Don't you have any?
Charlie

Charlie and Ralph, the covered hoppers with the yellow S were used by PC to deliver sand to their locomotive service shops.
Doesn't anyone have another PC or covered hopper pic?

The "S" stood for service. As in company Service. PRR used it also, on covered and open hoppers and boxcars for transporting sand, ballast, etc. anything the company needed moved between terminals but within the confines of the system IE no interchange.

So I guess that the "FLO" in "POWER FLO" is short for "FLOOR". Eek Misngth Misngth

Thanks for the info Bruce! Here's a covered hopper that is not lettered for "service". Charlie, I need to create some PC covered hoppers! 35
