Robert - the loco lifts are actually 12" long, but this is how I converted them to 24" long

This is Double length, add wood strip to the sidestrips with
some epoxy to stiffen the whole thing - note that if you want to use Hi-cube
cars, the handle at each end will need a bit removed from the underside of the
top or the car will not pass through - I trimmed mine out using a fretsaw, and
epoxied a short strip of aluminium into the top of the handle to make sure it
couldn't flex

This is the underside of the layout showing the end of the fiddlestick plugged into its socket - you can just see the shafy of the pluh between the end of the stick and the wood that holds the socket

No problem Rob - I just thought it might give you an alternative version of how to do the layout and have the intermittent passenger service that you wanted = if you are thinking of doing a "load through" operation at the warehous siding The passenger may cause a bit of fun and games unless it only runs a morning and afternoon service. A Budd RDC would be the easy option for it.

If you model steam era North American railroads, in the 1920' & 30's most freight cars would be 40 feet long. The notable exception would be meat reefers which stayed at 36 feet until the large meat companies either went out of business or changed over to trucks in the 1970's. If you back date to pre-WW1, most of the equipment will be 36 footers. If you are running in the 1930's in North America, a "doodle bug" like the one Bachmann came out with a few years ago would be a good alternative to an rdc for passenger service.
