It did get me wondering, though, if the blocks were actually made using cinders or if that's simply a regional colloquialism. I did a quick search and came up with [url=http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CCUQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.eng-tips.com%2Fviewthread.cfm%3Fqid%3D94710&ei=1Z1HVY78E4n2yQSdzoH4Cg&usg=AFQjCNGu1cMK2cBIi0DQXKoxZmJajSvyWQ&sig2=nj0GCRf4WCNRTmPI-kSKHA&bvm=bv.92291466,d.aWw&cad=rja' Wrote:

While working at Angeles Block made the mistake once of calling them bricks. The boss quickly corrected me that they are cinder blocks NOT bricks. Here's a link to Wikipedia definitions:

Don't remember CMU being used at Angeles Block.

Thanks everyone!!

I have really been having a blast with this project. I am really looking forward to getting the interior finished so I can get the exterior finished up. If things work out the interior may be done as early as next weekend but we will see what life has I order.

As far as the Cinder Blocks. The area around Bend is all on volcanic soil. Do a google search for BN Lava siding. One of the customers I am working to model is Central Oregon Pumice. Some of the pumice was shipped to a few different cinder block manufacturers in Oregon and California. One of the plants at Deschutes Oregon had a mine and would make cinder blocks on site. I have not found any evidence of them shipping blocks but they did ship pumice.
