Recycling those old cheap freight cars is one of the most rewarding part of the hobby.

Good job on them, once completed, they will look great has a coal train.

The old MDC Roundhouse 40' gons are also good for recycling. The C&O had a large fleet of this high side gons with arched ends and, after the Pere Marquette become a part of the C&O in 1947 a lot of 40' steel gons with flat ends. MDC Roundhouse has produced both versions, the prototype with the arched ends only with C&O lettering and the gondola with flat ends for a lot more roadnames except C&O. The flat end gondola I have numbered for the ex PM gons, begins with road number #217650.
So, I have recognized that I make the same thing like the real railroad: buying old rolling stock from other roads for refurbishment for years of succesfull operation.

So true! Repaint, reshop, reuse! I've got loads of old MDC shells for future projects.

Yes, the entire fleet will be large. As of now, I have 24 Accurail steel standard hoppers, 20 Ulrich metal Triple hoppers and 12 Roundhouse gondolas (six with arched ends and 4 with flat ends made of die cast metal and one younger gon made from plastic with arched ends). On the other hand are 3 new Walthers Proto 2000 War emergency hoppers with steel sides and 12 great Intermountain 2-bay offset hopper.
And for the correct steam power for the yard I have aquired this great engine, a brass 0-10-0, custom painted and decaled:
