RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - Charlie B - 04-11-2025 Good Morning It is a dreary 36°, and gas is 2.86. Our daughter is going to pick up our on line grocery order from Walmart. The local grocer store has no competition and their prices show it. We are a senior community now and they charge 25 to 35 % more on every item so it is worthwhile to dive a few miles. It's also nice that you don't have to wander around the store searching for items. I hope to do a handrail install on a SD6o locomotive. I have to mke them but I have the needed material I hope ya'll have a great week end Charlie RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 04-13-2025 Greetings, gang. Cloudy and a reasonably pleasant 53 degrees this morning in the remote reaches of northern Iowa. Supposed to get to the upper 70s but with 30 mph winds it won't be all that pleasant (but it still beats blizzards). Fun day yesterday. Soccer in the morning but the weather was much nicer than last weeks' 40 degrees with 30 mph winds. Yesterday the temperature was in the low 60s with only 25 mph winds. After the first game I had to take one of my great-grandsons south of town so he could catch a ride to Des Moines for a baseball tournament. Yeah, he's a pretty busy kid. After lunch I did get in a short bike ride. This morning I'll head to the cemetery to clean up the grave site for my wife and son. After that it will be time for a Formula 1 race. The rest of the day will probably be spent goofing off although I may take another bike ride. Gas continues to drop. It was down to $2.78. All stay safe. Tom RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - ngauger - 04-13-2025 Tom: Going up to 59 here, warmest it's been for 4 days ![]() Gas is 3.19 so enjoy your pricing! RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 04-14-2025 Greetings, gang. Sunny at the moment and 45 outside my window but very windy. Current wind speed is in the low 30s and may hit near 40 later with a high in the mid 50s. Watched a fairly entertaining F1 race yesterday and then goofed off a lot. The wind never got as bad as predicted yesterday so I was able to get in a nice bike ride yesterday afternoon. This morning I need to dispose of some yard waste and used oil. Also need to pick up oil and filters to change oil on my car. All stay safe. Tom RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 04-16-2025 Greetings, gang. It's 37 degrees under clear skies in the remote reaches of northern Iowa this morning. Supposed to get to around 70 with winds up to 30 mph. Storms possible tomorrow. Yesterday was moderately productive. Gym in the morning and got the oil changed after lunch. Also disposed of the used oil and picked up a jug of ant shield to help with the ants popping up on the patio. No major projects lined up for today. All stay safe. Tom RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - sir james - 04-16-2025 WEDNESDAY 4/16/25 Hello Blue Sun and 36 this morning, 50s for the day. 70 for Friday will be a one day event. Well let's see. Monday I had a one-year follow up MRI for the stroke I had. Boy those machines make a lot of loud noises. I read the results yesterday, of course some of it is in doctor words. What I could understand seemed ok. Gas was $2.99 everywhere we passed. No plans till Friday. I think to mess up our daughters food budget, I will ask for an Easter egg. S.J. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - Charlie B - 04-16-2025 Good morning I did some more work on trains yesterday after a trip to the drug store and the bank. My bank closed its branch in town and then removed the ATM. The nearest branch is now 8 miles away. If it wasn't for mobile banking I would switch but switching banks is a real pain. Tom, when the ants show up here, which is a yearly event we place cotton balls soaked in sugar and borax in several locations and they disappear in a couple days. It keeps them at bay for most of the year. ant repellent It is a cloudy 38 degrees and the cheapest gas is 2.89. More train room work today. Charlie RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 04-17-2025 Greetings, gang. Some high thin clouds are partially concealing the moon but otherwise it's pretty nice this morning at 55 degrees. Another day near 70 and then cooling off over the weekend. 70% chance of rain tonight. Yesterday I was struggling to even do something as simple as walking the track at the gym. Came home and took a couple of ibuprofen and started feeling better. I guess my muscles don't like me changing the oil any more. I made macaroni and cheese for supper last night and used all the milk so I guess I'll be heading to the grocery store this morning for that and a few other items. All stay safe. Tom RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - ngauger - 04-17-2025 Tom That's what bothers me the most about getting older. I have to pay someone else to do all the repairs I used to be able to do. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - Charlie B - 04-17-2025 Good morning. Tell me all about the aches and pains as we get old ![]() It is 39° and sunny. Gas jumped to 3.00 and our Circle K is at 3.30 More sorting today Cheers Charlie RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 04-18-2025 Greetings, gang. Cloudy and breezy this morning and definitely cooler than yesterday. 48 now and the NWS is claiming the mid 50s for today after yesterday's high of 80. It got a little noisy around 4 AM this morning as a small thunderstorm rolled through. It was all bluster as there was maybe a tenth of an inch of rain. I need to go to the gym a little early today as I have an appointment to get the tires rotated at 11:30 this morning. Not much else planned for the remainder of the day. With Easter weekend upon us there is no soccer this weekend so it looks to be pretty quiet. Mikey - I'm fairly fortunate in that I can still do most repairs but one thing that I can no longer do is handle the 28 foot extension ladder needed to for window cleaning on the second floor. I con my sons and sons-in-law for that. ![]() Gas jumped 25 to 35 cents overnight from $2.74 to $2.99 or $3.09, depending on where you look. All stay safe. Tom RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - Charlie B - 04-18-2025 Good Morning. Well the train room "office" is about done as far as organizing small parts, now I need to organize the kit boxes. We have 58° heading for 75°. The best gas price is $2.97. I have to make a trip to harbor freight today to get a wireless doorbell. We are trying to get some way for my wife to call me when I am in the train room so I can leave her by herself for a little while. She is now able to walk and do other minor things, even attempting to cook a little but she has no strength in her arms yet. I do hope to be able to mow grass this week end too. Charlie RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - ngauger - 04-18-2025 54 heading to 72 today, then 80 tomorrow Of course, then Sunday the high is 69 Loads of fun deciding on how to dress ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - BR60103 - 04-18-2025 We went out to vote in the advanced polls today. The nearest one (at the University) had a 1 1/2 to 2 hour lineup. They told us there was not much lineup at the main election office. When we got there, it took about 45 minutes. There are advanced polls each day of the 4-day weekend; main vote is on the 28th. This afternoon I finished the income tax and submitted it. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 04-20-2025 Happy Easter, gang. 40 and cloudy with rain on the way. 80-90% chance of rain today and tonight with maybe close to a couple of inches by the time it's all over. High in the low 50s today. Yesterday was laundry day. I also spent some time cleaning the grave site for my wife and son. It held up very well over the winter. After lunch I did some raking in the front yard and put down some grass seed. Had quite a number of brown spots this spring, possibly due to very little snow over the winter. F1 race this morning and if the rain holds off some more raking this afternoon. Gas has already dropped a dime from Thursday. Everyone at $2.89 this morning. All stay safe. Tom |
