RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - tompm - 09-14-2021 I decided to step away from the engine terminal for a time and work on the passenger station. In order to finish the layout of the engine terminal I need to know where the passenger station is going. First step in putting together the passenger station is the assembling the platforms. ![]() ![]() I painted the platforms and the top of the roofs using a rattle can. The bottom of the roof, lights, support posts, benches, and signs were painted using a airbrush. Once the paint was dry I built the stair assembly. ![]() Next installed the support posts and light fixtures. I painted the bottom of the fixtures white. ![]() Attached the roof sections and placed them on the layout to see how they looked. ![]() ![]() ![]() I assembled the benches and signs. ![]() Coming up. Add the benches and signs to the platforms. Build the second set. Weather them. RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - tompm - 09-19-2021 Time to change things up. I cannot make any further useful progress on the Engine Terminal until I get the passenger station place. The station will determine the limits of the urban area. First step is to build the station platforms. For this I am going to assemble Walthers Cornerstone Butterfly Platform Shelter ![]() Here is what the open box looks like. ![]() I used a rattle can to paint the concrete parts and top of the shelter roofs. I airbrushed the supports and underside of the shelter roofs. Assemble the stairs. ![]() Add the supports and lights to the underside of the shelters. Paint the bottom of the lights. ![]() Platforms' assembled and place in approximate location. ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - tompm - 09-19-2021 Benches and signs. ![]() Weathered and ready. ![]() ![]() Next is the passenger station itself. RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - ezdays - 09-20-2021 Nice, that looks like it will fit well with what you're doing. I agree with Don, and the fact that your layout is topped with styrofoam should make installation of those platforms (and their staircases) easy. I scratchbuilt my butterfly platforms, but faked the stairwells, as the tracks are atop 3/4" plywood and in a pretty-well inaccessible area to attempt using a jigsaw... The "stairs" are simply the plywood painted black, good enough, I think, as it's not near the front of the layout. Wayne RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - tompm - 09-20-2021 Thanks Don and Wayne (09-20-2021, 10:00 AM)doctorwayne Wrote: I agree with Don, and the fact that your layout is topped with styrofoam should make installation of those platforms (and their staircases) easy. For once I actually look like I know what I am doing using the foam. It took me about a 20 minutes to cut the foam out for the stairs. Biggest problem was I only have a dull knife to use for cutting the foam. I will get a couple of photos of the platforms in place soon. RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - tompm - 09-20-2021 Next structure on the list is Walthers Union Station kit. The Box ![]() The untouched parts ![]() Coloring the mortar lines. I know it is hard to see in the photos. I did two coats. Frist was a darker gray and then an off white. ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - tompm - 09-20-2021 The walls of the center section being assembled. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - tompm - 09-20-2021 Next up is the left section. Windows and "glass" installed ![]() Walls assembled ![]() Installed entrance awning ![]() Right section walls assembled ![]() Entrance awning added ![]() RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - tompm - 09-20-2021 All sections in place ![]() Decals added ![]() Rear with all sections ![]() RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - tompm - 09-20-2021 Front weathered ![]() Rear weathered ![]() To me the weathering came out too dark. I will need to correct it. In place with platforms. Notice stairs have been cut into the foam. ![]() ![]() RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - tompm - 09-22-2021 I went back and used a lighter color chalk on the station. ![]() ![]() Here is the station in place with the platforms ![]() ![]() RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - ezdays - 09-23-2021 Progressing nicely, BTW, love those buses.... ![]() RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - Tyson Rayles - 09-25-2021 Nice work. RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - tompm - 10-25-2021 This is not much of an update but here it is. Began painting the foam a brown color. This area is where Union Station is going to go and will be the first area where scenery will be added. ![]() ![]() Track was placed down and tested. It has been outlined. Not sure how well you can see the marker lines. ![]() ![]() Next step will be removing the track. Using the outline I will place the roadbed. Once the roadbed is in place the track will be again placed down for testing. |
