RE: Charlie b's layout - Charlie B - 06-29-2025 I spent the biggest part of my weekend modeling working on 3 undecorated Stewart C628's I have to decal the number boards and I need to do some other warning stickers on the generator doors and various appliances. I will have to search my supply for these. The hand rails and the rest of the grab irons won't be too bad. I did 2 in the snowbird and one in the red. I have the numberboard decals printed ready to install, I just ran out of gas. Charlie RE: Charlie b's layout - TMo - 06-30-2025 The Valley is now well represented! I'm looking forward to seeing the orange handrails on the corners! Cal Scale offers a detail kit which includes a crazy number of grab irons if you want to subject yourself to hours of torture with a pin vise. I used the pin vise in my power screwdriver and it was a wiz drilling the holes. The grabs are installed except the corner ones on the snowbirds. Charlie RE: Charlie b's layout - Charlie B - 07-03-2025 I managed to get all of the LV 628's put together. I am feeling my age, this was a lot harder than it was 20 years ago. It's funny how the vision gets goofy and the hands don't work as well. At least I am not shaky so I will be OK. I think some new glasses are in order. My optivisors are a big help but might work better with glasses. I still can read without them but struggle when I am tired. RE: Charlie b's layout - TMo - 07-04-2025 Ah the eyes. Glad I'm not in N-scale. The Alcos look like they just came from the factory in Schenectady! Since they are Stewarts, I bet you'll never have a problem with them. Charlie alas the so-called golden years in a word they suck. But the locos look super. Jim RE: Charlie b's layout - hillyard999 - 07-04-2025 Charlie! Your layout is so complete you even have a tennis match going on! RE: Charlie b's layout - Charlie B - 07-04-2025 (07-04-2025, 11:46 AM)hillyard999 Wrote: Charlie! That section of my layout represents my great grandfathers home. He had 5 tennis courts and green houses. He played a set of tennis on his 90th birthday, I am lucky if I get ut of a chair and I am only 81. ![]() Charlie RE: Charlie b's layout - ngauger - 07-04-2025 (07-03-2025, 09:22 PM)Charlie B Wrote: I managed to get all of the LV 628's put together. Charlie Charlie, That's why I went from N scale to G... Eyes and old age ![]() They do look great though!!! RE: Charlie b's layout - Charlie B - 07-15-2025 A couple more ALCo's for the Wilderson RE: Charlie b's layout - Charlie B - 07-31-2025 I have been doing some projects but not talking about them. Tonight I put some decals on an Atlas RS3 that I painted and I also put some folks in the KJR 44 flat car I am modeling. I got all the seats and tables installed and I even found a LPB that is close enough to look like my wife doing the narration. I need to do a little touch up paint on her so it looks like a Mike in her hand I used a strand of copper from a 30 gauge wire to resemble a mike cord. Charlie RE: Charlie b's layout - Charlie B - 08-01-2025 Tonight I started on building the canopy for the KJR 44. I have it figured out nd I need to make 4 braces for inside and glue them in place. I will do that tomorrow. While waiting for some glue to set I decaled one side of a Lehigh Valley caboose to tow with the white elephants. It's a Roundhouse that will require some lights so it will be a while before it hits the layout. Charlie RE: Charlie b's layout - tompm - 08-02-2025 Great looking Lehigh Valley caboose! I am intrested in how you do the ladders. I have several of these kits that I have built and several more to build. The ladders always drive me crazy. RE: Charlie b's layout - Charlie B - 08-17-2025 Hi gang I have been working on the KJR train and a couple other projects. I have been playing with the UV activated epoxy and I am very impressed on what it does and I may have found something to use for the metal kits for track equipment. This stuff is fast to set when the light is applied and it is really strong. I used it to repair some broken car frame castings and it saved them. I used it to make window glass in this LV Caboose, not perfect but it was fast and they won't fall out.. I also used a little on a pin to set the wire grabs on the rear of an Athearn caboose that I am working on for the KJR 5 I found another undecorated refer I painted last year and I have some LV decals so I will letter it for that road More later when I get the ladders on the roof of the LV cab. Charlie RE: Charlie b's layout - TMo - 08-18-2025 Asa Packer would be very happy to have found a home with your empire, Charlie! As a modeler of their former mainline, it's good to see the representation all the way out there in Ohio. |
