Lester Perrys scratch build 09 summer challenge - Lester Perry - 06-17-2009 I am adding a Gern facility to my layout. Some of this is already in existence as a truck manufacturing plant and just needed modification. This transformation actually started before I entered this contest. What has happened so far is not part of my entry as it is only cosmetic, such as signs. The facility already in existence is a simple scratch build from about 12 years ago. My entry is a part to be added to this. Here are some pics of what I have done to this point. these have been posted earlier in the upper berth, under A FEW PICS GERN IN WV . ![]() ![]() I am showing this to make sure I am not disqualified on a technicality. Also I have already begun my project a few days ago. So if this is a problem tell me now.I am using some out of the ordinary material. Here is what I have as of now. ![]() This is 2" PVC pipe that I had just collecting dust. ![]() This is what it looks like now. ![]() Plastic Sign I picked up at LHS (local hardware store) ![]() here I now have a top added to it. ![]() Add some steps. and that is all for now. Stay tuned for more updates Re: Lester Perrys scratch build 09 summer challenge - eightyeightfan1 - 06-17-2009 Cool idea using the "OR RENT" sign. Is it made of styrene? can you use Tenex or Testors glues on them? Re: Lester Perrys scratch build 09 summer challenge - Lester Perry - 06-17-2009 It's not styrene, so far all I have done is put it on the top of the PVC pipe. I used contact cement for that and used contact cement to hold them together. I figured it will hold to anything. I even used it for the steps. I am trying to do this with things I already have laying around. So far so good no $$ so far. Oops except for the sign. $1.00 plus some change. Re: Lester Perrys scratch build 09 summer challenge - Lester Perry - 06-25-2009 Well this project has been put on a temporary hold. If you look at the HO forum you will find that I am making some much needed changes to my layout. So give me a couple of weeks and I will be back on this. Re: Lester Perrys scratch build 09 summer challenge - upnick - 06-26-2009 Hi Les, Look forward to progress ![]() Re: Lester Perrys scratch build 09 summer challenge - Trucklover - 06-26-2009 Neat idea using the PVC Les. Like the stairs going up to the tops of the silos too ![]() ![]() Looking forward to seeing more when you get around to it ![]() Re: Lester Perrys scratch build 09 summer challenge - Lester Perry - 06-26-2009 Thanks Guys, I thought the steps would be something a little different instead of a ladder. Here are a couple more pics of it in place but that is it for now. ![]() ![]() Got to get to more pressing issues of changing. Re: Lester Perrys scratch build 09 summer challenge - e-paw - 06-26-2009 I'm glad I don't have to climb those stairs. ![]() Re: Lester Perrys scratch build 09 summer challenge - eightyeightfan1 - 06-26-2009 e-paw Wrote:I'm glad I don't have to climb those stairs. I'm having a heart attack just thinking about it. Nice job! So why not work on my other project. Sounded like a good idea to me. Before I show this I must say, due to an error in measurements this little piece of framework may have to be scrapped. The engineers are studying the problem now. I know it doesn't Look like much work, but it is time consuming foe an amateur like me. Please be kind. ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: Lester Perrys scratch build 09 summer challenge - Lester Perry - 07-11-2009 Well the engineers made a few minor changes and here are the results ![]() ![]() Re: Lester Perrys scratch build 09 summer challenge - Ralph - 07-11-2009 Nice work fitting that loading section against the silos! You hired some good engineers there Les! ![]() Ralph Re: Lester Perrys scratch build 09 summer challenge - Lester Perry - 07-11-2009 Yes there are 2 of them Their names are try and try again. I think they have done some work for you. Re: Lester Perrys scratch build 09 summer challenge - Herc Driver - 07-11-2009 Using that "For Rent" sign was a great idea! I didn't even stop to think that those signs are just as good (and probably cheaper) than styrene sheets of comparable size. Really nice modeling! |
