E-paw's kitbash summer '09 challenge - e-paw - 07-17-2009

I started the rail today. So far so good.I soldered up the leads and glued them in place with CA. It's a little tricky to set the rail down and line it up before the glue drys.
I'll cut the overhanging rail to length after the glue has had plenty of time to set. When it's all set I'll paint and weather the rail.

I am glad you are in the kit bash competition

I got the bridge installed and wired. there is a small block of wood under it to support the weight of a loco.
I also started on the operators shed. For now it's just a mock up, but you get the idea of what I'm after.

The operators shed is almost complete. It's made from some left over siding and roofing from a laser kit I completed a few years back. The window is a cut down DPM, and the door is scratch built.

While that dries I started an the base for the apron. I wanted a pored concrete portion next to the sea wall to support it . I started by marking off the aria to get covered, then masked it off with 3 layers of tape. The tape will give me the right thickness for the pour. I then spread some Spackle over the foam. After an hour or so I pealed the tape off leaving a nice crisp edge. When that dried fully I scribed expansion joints and cracks in it.

Afterwards I painted it with some craft store paint that matches Polly Scale aged concrete. When it dries I give it some weathering.

Here is the finished base, I also prepared the aria for some ground foam.

I'm also in the scratchbuild, I just may have to drop out of it Nope because of lack of time or change my modelling subject to something smaller. I'm almost finished with the car float + apron and hope to start the scratch soon.

The next thing that I got to was to install a railing around the operators shed. I checked my parts bin for some bashing fodder and came up empty, So it was off to the LHS. when I got back I soldered up some brass to form the railing. now to trim the bottom edge and paint it.

While that dries I added some washes, caulks, and dry brushing to the whole structure. Afterwards I installed it on the layout, added some ground cover, and small details.

I hooked up the lights and gave them a test.

The next step was to ballest and weather the track.

This project is almost complete. Just a few more details and other odds & ends.

I really admire the care and consideration you have given every step of this project. Thumbsup The effort is apparant in your finished product and has really paid off IMO. In fact, I think kitbashing in general, to be done well, almost forces you to slow down and contemplate each step of the process in order to pull off a great structure in the end.
