And as a progress report:

Got the wire pulled for the electrical service.

Turned on the water - only one leak, where I didn't tighten the faucet at the train building. Easy fix - tighten it!

Need to finish backfilling the ditch.

Hired a finisher/painter for the sheetrock - will start on Friday.

Ordered the brick for the exterior - to be delivered by Friday.

Things are looking up!

Gary, that is one nice looking building, and what a nice job you are doing. The drywall finishing is one thing I don't like to do, but I'll do my own now because it is something I can do, and it isn't like I have to go to work anymore.
I'm only 4 foot from the house, so I elected not to put water to the building.
The brick should really set the place off. Looks like you will be laying track before summer. Good luck and keep posting.

Thanks Charlie Smile It is cool that we are both in the process of constructing buildings for our trains. I hope your construction goes well. Thumbsup

I could probably finish the sheetrock myself, but I figure a pro will have it done in a few days where it would take me a couple weeks probably. If it was only the walls, I probably would have tackled it myself, but doing the ceiling is really what I am avoiding.

Will you being putting in a lay-in ceiling or will it be sheetrock?

Re: WOOHOO! Good weather = time to build - Charlie B - 03-17-2010

Gary I'll be drywalling the ceiling, but not taking many pains with the seams, I may texture it, but I know for sure in addition to the insulation I will be adding this to the paint on the walls and ceiling. http://www.hytechceramics.com/insulatingadditive.html We used it in the apartment we rented in Schenley, and the difference was quite noticeable. It did go a long way to make the acoustics better in the rooms, and it was a solid brick building with no wall insulation, and you could really feel the difference when you put your hand on the outside wall that we didn't do.

Charlie, I have never seen that stuff... insulation addedto the paint! It almost seems too good to be true!

Well, the hard part is done. I'm paying people to do the brick and the sheetrock finishing. Thumbsup

The finisher I hired is slower than I expected. Oh well, gives me time to work on other stuff.

Been silently following along here...but chimed in just to give you some encouragement, Gary. Keep working on whatever you can, and go back to the beginning of this thread occasionally to remind you of how far you have come. Although, the big new building in your yard probably does that well!

Re: WOOHOO! Good weather = time to build - Gary S - 03-29-2010

Thanks for the encouragement, Galen. The finisher is out in the building right now fixing all the small rough spots and contusions and areas that I am not satisfied with. Before he ever gave me a price, I explained that the walls would be for my backdrop and need to be perfectly smooth. I was worried for the past couple of days that he wasn't going to meet my expectations, but I spoke with him today and he agrees that the walls need to be perfect and will do what it takes to make them just right.

In the meantime, I have been working on my control panel and turnout controls. It'll be nice to have all that stuff ready for the layout.

Now the down side - don't even ask how much money I have spent on all this. But, what better to spend money on then something you enjoy?

EGGZACHARY! You can't take it with you, and your happiness is why you work so hard, so enjoy it!

You got that right! We all make decsions on how to spend our money - I don't mind spending the money for the new building, yet I refuse to pay for cable TV.
