Hello again---I was down at the waterfront early this morning hoping to get some shots of the ships under sail (no luck),but without the crowds I was able to get a better picture of the Sorlandet.I did get a bonus shot though as the Douglas Dakota from the Warplane Heritage collection was in the air ( I thought Herc Driver might enjoy this shot )

Back to some railfanning today but the conditions were not the best for photographing as it was hazy and overcast .The train action was certainly much better than the weather---I caught this meet at Bayview. In the first shot, you'll notice the signal to the right shows green---there must be another train heading west up the Dundas Sub while the freight headed by SD70M 8816 comes around the curve heading east.

Once the Via train clears, the freight continues east towards Toronto.

Hello Everyone---this morning I visited the Canadian Warplane Museum located in Mount Hope to see the B-17 Flying Fortress.I highly recommend a visit to the museum if you planning a trip to Hamilton.I have been there a few times but each visit is a new adventure and today was outstanding. As I toured the museum and the B-17 I couldn't help but think of all the young crewmen who flew and serviced these aircraft, far too many giving their lives to preserve our freedom. These aircraft help to honour and preserve their sacrifice.

When I left the airport I headed to Copetown which is located south-west of Hamilton and located on Canadian National's Dundas Sub---I managed to catch a couple of trains. All in all,a great day for some picture taking in my hometown.

No, the IC unit is not leased, but purchased.....along with the railroad itself. Icon_lol

So...What roads are left after the purchasing, mergers and whatnot of a few years back..??

Actually, there are quite a few because companies buy railroads then sell them (or bits of them) off again.
of course, a lot of these are smaller than the IC was.

Hello---I'd like to thank Everyone who have been following this thread and providing all your valuable comments and feedback---you have inspired and motivated me to keep providing more photos.Today I was back at Bayview and Hamilton West and as usual I met some fellow railfanners---a father and son team from Arizona and Ohio. They were on an extended holiday and had come to Hamilton as a side trip for a couple of days as they heard it was a great spot to watch trains, however I think they were a little disappointed as the action wasn't up to their expectations---I could sympathize with them, especially when I thought of the great railfanning that Doctor Wayne and I have done with our friend Charlie in Pennsylvannia where there was always constant action.Luckily while I was there three trains passed within an hour so hopefully their luck improves before they leave.

Hi Ed, Once again great photos. We have been drenched with rain the past two days so I have just stayed inside. We did not have the flooding that Toronto had, but it is wet enough. I hope you passed on the Big Blue site to them and I hope they will drop by. I always want to meet folks that are interested in trains.

Canadian National is replacing the Bay St. bridge which was built in 1929---while construction is underway it offers an interesting view of the Stuart St. yard

Hello Everyone---most days I'd be very happy to see CP's Kinnear Yard crowded with locomotives but today it proved to be a bit of a problem.Sitting on the inside track was a very interesting train led by a rare GP38-2---with all the other diesels I couldn't get a clear view so all I could do was wait and hope these diesels would move.I waited and waited, finally I got a clear shot.

Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - Charlie B - 08-01-2013

Great catch Ed, but i think that train deserves the CP 3084. They don't give you any respect.
I am almost getting embarrassed at my favorite spot. I'm getting so well known the engineers are honking the horns and flashing the lights. the lights are OK, but the neighbors may start to complain about the horns. Goldth
I really enjoy these posts

Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - cn nutbar - 08-01-2013

Thanks Charlie---you're right about CP 3084,I would have waited all day to see that locomotive---probably Canada's only heritage unit---here's a link http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/pictur ... 2/3084.jpg.

I guess one of the crewmen from the other locomotives must have spotted me this afternoon while I was waiting and came over to tell me they would be moving the GP9 switchers shortly which I really appreciated as I was getting a bit frustrated and was thinking about leaving. The employees at Kinnear Yard seem friendly with the railfanners and even though they don't blow the horns, there's always a wave and smiles from the crews.I've heard there are some big changes planned for Kinnear---it will no longer be a stop for crew-changes and I suspect trains will continue to do some switching but the opportunities to get some photos will be reduced. Also CP is selling all their recently refurbished ex-Soo SD60's---I guess I was lucky to get some pictures before they're gone for good.

Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - Charlie B - 08-01-2013

Don't forget the 2 CN e9's, though I wonder if they will ever get to Canada. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=71450
