Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - cn nutbar - 05-21-2014 Not a lot of action today but some interesting sightings nonetheless including a surprise visitor in the grass. As much as I don't like snakes, this Gartner snake is harmless and was probably more frightened of me as it slithered off quickly A first time sighting occured at Baview as a trio of CN's newest ES44AC's were the power on eastbound train 382 including a very rare mid-train helper---these locomotives are commonly seen in western Canada so it was a real treat to see them in my hometown Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - Charlie B - 05-21-2014 I saw his cousin at my spot the other day. I am not fond of them but I leave them alone. The Enon Eagles grab one now and again. Charlie Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - railroader9731 - 05-23-2014 ah yes the ole snake in the grass. I found one about 2 yrs ago and my daughter was all up for it as a lets keep him till im bored. so I said yes we will keep him for a week and named him mr snake. well mr was a mrs and 4 days later 9 babies in the tank Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - cn nutbar - 05-24-2014 SD70-M #8880 and a SD60F are shown coming off the Dundas Sub-division and heading east through Bayview with train 148 on a beautiful Saturday morning Shortly after,VIA followed Then AMTRAK joined the party heading west towards Hamilton Not long afterwards, train 422 entertained the railfanners who were watching the action from the Laking Gardens bridge As 422 rolled by she was met by another westbound---unfortunately I couldn't get a clear picture of the westbound, but I can't complain after all the other action Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - cn nutbar - 05-27-2014 Here's train 422 coming out of Hamilton and heading east through Bayview this morning.Today's power included SD70M-2 8948,BCOL C40-8M 4605,C44-9W 2606 and another SD70M-2 8934. Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - cn nutbar - 05-27-2014 The replacement of the Bay St. bridge appears to be getting closer to completion. Here's a couple of pictures showing the older bridge being removed and a shot taken today showing the new bridge .This will also be the location of the new GO station---looks like there will be a lot of new vantage points for the local railfanners when the construction project is completed. Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - cn nutbar - 06-01-2014 Bayview is a beautiful spot to watch trains, even when the action is slow But it's even better when a train rolls through Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - jwb - 06-01-2014 Well, garter snakes are harmless to people. Not so much to slugs, earthworms, leeches, lizards, bugs, etc. I always like to meet various creatures while railfanning, as long as they're harmless to me. On the other hand, there are rattlesnakes on Cajon Pass. Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - cn nutbar - 07-12-2014 It's been a while since I've had a chance to do some local railfanning so I was happy that the action at Bayview was pretty good today---here's a few shots taken this morning Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - Charlie B - 07-12-2014 Wow Ed, you hit the jackpot. great pictures and lots of variety. Charlie Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - cn nutbar - 07-12-2014 Thanks Charlie---but still waiting for a heritage unit Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - cn nutbar - 07-23-2014 It's always a treat to see "foreign" power in my hometown, yesterday I caught two BNSF units passing through Bayview Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - cn nutbar - 07-25-2014 The Bay St. bridge replacement is finally complete but the new GO station construction has a long way to go Back on the mainline,CN train 422 is spotted at King Rd.,Aldershot Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - Charlie B - 07-25-2014 Ed, are they extending the Go train out your way? Too bad all the good looking locomotives are gone, well, time marches on. That's why we model. &0 years from now the newbies will be looking back at the old engines of today. Charlie Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - cn nutbar - 07-25-2014 Hi Charlie---the newly elected Ontario Liberal Party has committed billions of dollars to improve the provincial transportation network---GO service is part of the plan (along with inter-city LRT's) so expansion of service east of Hamilton to Niagara Falls/Fort Erie and all points in-between looks like a reality. As well, all day GO service in Hamilton appears to be another development which is why a second GO station is currently being constructed. As with all government initiatives,we'll wait and see how things develop . |
