Removing shell from N Scale Locomotive - dwight77 - 01-21-2011

If you are like me, you have been mad and cussed more than once trying to get the shell off of an N Scale diesel locomotive.
This showed up on youtube and while I haven't tried it yet.....it does seem to make the job easy....almost too easy.
Take a look and I hope it helps.

It makes sense to me! Thumbsup
But I have no way to try it.
I'll have to find out from you how well it works. Icon_lol

Anyone else think dropping your loco is a good idea?

Do it like the second video, onto a piece of bubble wrap, barely had to lift the corner of the box lid a 1/4" to get the case off.

N Scale locomotives are a wee might tougher then they look..I dropped my CSX GP38-2 and while the shell was totaled the drive survive to run another day..

I find this works great for taking off the shells. So far i have not broke anything doing it this way.

Ha, last Monday I was over at a friend's for work night on his layout and although his primary interest is turn of the century steam, he picked up an Atlas Trainmaster (N scale) and just as we were wrapping up he mentioned he was going to try to figure out how to get the shell off so he could install a decoder. I remembered seeing those videos, so I grabbed a handy parts box that just fit this big guy and did as shown. One shot on each end and I was able to easily lift the shell off. I don't knwo who was more amazed that it worked, me or him - and without damaging the loco.
