I assume you are posting this while standing in the casher line at the local home improvement market shopping for extruded Styrofoam 357

No actually at home sitting on my weary old butt. The president of the model railroad club I belong to is donating at least enough extruded Styrofoam to finish this section of the new layout.

Re: My Grande Valley Railway in the "N"ormal scale - Catt - 07-23-2015

I now have enough extruded Styrofoam to finish the N layout and do the extension on the Z layout .I'm scheduling a trip to Menards next week to get the rest of the lumber to finish the N scale layout bench work.

Yeah, I know another boring construction photo. Wallbang Most of those are "but" they are signs of progress. I have enough extruded Styrofoam now to finish the benchwork. All I need is the lumber but I'm abit under the weather (which is getting rather toasty) to go wander around Menards finding the stuff I want/need to finish this part of the project.

Re: My Grande Valley Railway in the "N"ormal scale - Catt - 07-25-2015

SCENERY!! well sort of. This is the planned location for the grain elevator ,farm implement sales and service. It will be close to 4'6" long when doneand at least 16" deep.I am hoping to put my old company to the left of it ,but that is not written in Styrofoam. Nope

4'6" in N, not bad at all! Big Grin

Finished bench work plus all the junk to be removed starting this afternoon. Now that everything is glued down I think I should have moved the river further to the left. Oh well I can live with it. I find it rather amazing how much crap you can accumulate in 36 years.(biggest mess is behind me in this photo) Eek

Re: My Grande Valley Railway in the "N"ormal scale - Catt - 08-07-2015

The last time I bought Midwest N scale cork roadbed it was either 29 or 29.5" long (been a long time but I know it wasn't longer). Anyway I bought a box of 25 pieces today and much to my surprise it is now a full 36" long.I never could figure out why Peco was the only company to do track and roadbed 36" long.

Yes, I know Micro Engineering code 55 track is also 36" long but is usually impossible to get. The reason I went with Peco code 55 in the first place was because ME's code 55 was not available anywhere and they just didn't seem to want to be bothered making more.

Looking good. How big is your layout and how big is the room?

Re: My Grande Valley Railway in the "N"ormal scale - Catt - 08-08-2015

The room is 25'6" long by 10'6" wide and so was the layout. The layout is now 8'10" by 10'6". I may actually get this version done before I start my new hobby of pushing up blades of grass from the brown end. Eek Health problems are kicking my butt so I decided it was time for a smaller version.

Re: My Grande Valley Railway in the "N"ormal scale - Catt - 08-08-2015

Made some serious progress today.I got 12 ' of road bed glued down, should get another 9' at least tomorrow.

I bumped the bridge while setting up the camera and did not notice it till I uploaded the pic.

Just enough curve that the track is not perfectly straight. There will be a small yard to the left of the mainline.

Curve radius is 18" after I had all of this glued down I found my 22" radius stuff. The two remaning curves may just be 22".
