Started putting down some ballast yesterday using WS mixed gray fine ballast.I wanted to use Arizona Rock and Mineral but they are now buy dirrect only and the minimum for me is 6 bags which is way more than I will ever need. For my LHS to buy it the minimum is 24 bags ( I'm starting to think AR&M doesn't really want to sell the stuff,oh well they're loss WS's gain).

That's my take on them anyway. That's ok though I've had this WS ballast long enough that I concider it a cheap deal. Infact I am quite pleased with the way it looks, and that WS shaker is big enough to do most of the N layout.

Only thing is I am definately going to have to start on the creek for the Z no later than next monday if I want to get it done by August first.

Time for a little update pic.I have been painting (repainting) rail and ballasting so far there is about 6 actual feet long done.As I stated in a earlier post I wanted to use AR&M ballast because it is real rock. With a six bag minimum order from me or a twenty four bag for my LHS I decided to just use the WS mixed gray fine ballast I already had.

Ballasting track is not one of my favorite parts of model railroading ,but so far I am not disappointed with my results.

I have actualy got more done than what shows in the pic ,but this pic turned out better than the most recent pic.

More progress shots going right to left.It is blowing my mind just how easy the ballast work is going this time. Eek

You're on fire Catt! BTW, I love the bright green elevator! I've once seen one that was painted bright orange from the 60s to the 80s!

Matt, when I first painted I thought "Gads that thing is awful " but now I wouldn't want it any other way.

Ok, back to the N scale layout for awhile. This time adding a bit more detail to the elevator complex. These track bumpers were designed by Stony Smith and are available in his Shapeways store.

A little better view of the bumpers.

I also put a bumper at Barb's Bagels.Knd of hard to tell but that is a Gern boxcar delivering Flux-flour so Barb's bagels can be 3% better than the competion.

Mike, if your looking for something to use for dead leaves brew yourself some tea and save the tea bag. If you drink decaf tea though the leaves are kind of dark.

I've done that Catt and used em' for bark in woodchip loads as well.
