A New Year's resolution challenge - ezdays - 01-02-2009 Yep, Big Blue is having it's first ever challenge, and you all gave us the idea. Mikey and I were looking over everyone's resolutions in this http://www.the-gauge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=421 thread, and some of your plans for 2009 in thishttp://www.the-gauge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=418 and we thought we have a challenge that will check up on you and see how well you're keeping your promises. What you need to do is to define some goals, then over the next few months, you can document the progress on these goals and by the end of April, we'll judge you on how close you came to meeting those goals. Here's how it's going to work:
The challenge starts right now, and will run until April 30. We will then try to divide the entries into some categories as to complexity of the project, and how close it comes to meeting its goals. We will not decide how to group things, if at all, until the end of the challenge since we have no idea what kind of projects will be entered and how many will actually get close to being finished. A poll will open so that we can pick a winner. As usual, there are no real prizes, just bragging rights and a certificate from Big Blue showing that you won first place. And, as an added bonus, a certificate of completion will be awarded to everyone that actually comes close to finishing their projects. We are not trying to make this complicated, let me know if it sounds that way. All we're asking is that you define a project, keep us posted on how you're doing on it and we'll see how close you come when we reach the end date. Good luck Re: A New Year's resolution challenge - ezdays - 01-14-2009 IS not anyone up to the challenge? Nobody making any new years resolutions that there's an outside chance that they could keep at least some of them? How about it, we've always had a few people show up for our challenges, why not the first full-scale challenge for Big Blue? And yes, I'll enter, I'm wondering if we can get Mikey and a few mods to do the same. As the little weasel-like creature in Madagascar said, "Let's move it, move it, move it" The little creature is a lemur, according to my 4 year old who knows about these things...! In any case, I'll throw my hat in the ring with something I need to do anyway... Some scratch/bashed buildings for a friend's modules. He's building the benchwork for me, so I am doing some structures for him, including:
Hope to have these done within 2 months...! Andrew Re: A New Year's resolution challenge - ezdays - 01-14-2009 MasonJar Wrote:Okey, dokey, open a thread to that affect so we can see how you progress. Thank you sire, I always look upon these challenges as motivation to get me to do things I should be doing anyway but can always find an excuse to put off.Quote:And yes, I'll enter, I'm wondering if we can get Mikey and a few mods to do the same. Can we do more then one thread? I have 2 goals that are different. One is to complete the CAT rental module, and the second is to start the first 2 modules on my M&ET plans, and i dont think those would work well with each other in the same thread lol. So do i have to pick one or the other or can i do both? Re: A New Year's resolution challenge - ezdays - 01-14-2009 Trucklover Wrote:yeah, that should work. I've got three goals, I probably should open three threads. We'll do any judging based on the total work so it shouldn't matter, one thread or three...ezdays Wrote:IS not anyone up to the challenge? Sounds good, thanks Don Re: A New Year's resolution challenge - shaygetz - 01-14-2009 I'd like to finish this... A Tyco GP20 repower and redetail... ...and this. I will be getting a kick start with surgery coming up that's expected to keep me away from work for about 10 daze. Re: A New Year's resolution challenge - Lester Perry - 04-09-2009 Well I am a little late on this but I just found out about it. I have been planning to add about 350 to 400 square feet to the building my layout is in which would mean 350 to 400 square feet to my layout. Now this will not be finished by the end of April. Hopefully it will be started by then. I have 2 teenagers who are going to help me with this project. Their parents are 100% behind this. It will keep them busy for a while. I hope to get the building finished this summer. The layout part will take years. Les Re: A New Year's resolution challenge - ezdays - 05-04-2009 OK, we're a few days past April 30. I'll keep the challenge open a few more days just in case anyone has any loose ends they want to post. I will officially close things up at midnight GMT May 8th, this coming Friday. Me, well I've got a lot of loose ends on my projects, but I doubt that even an additional month is going to help in my case... Re: A New Year's resolution challenge - ezdays - 05-18-2009 Sorry for the delay, but it's time to bring this challenge to its conclusion. As far as I can see, we have but two people that have fully completed their challenges and two more that are pretty far along. Several others, including myself, have entered, but failed to show any work. So in all fairness, I've discussed this with Mikey and we both agree, that we will award certificates to everyone that has either completed, or partially completed their challenge. No voting, just the satisfaction that you got something accomplished and that you'll have a certificate to show for it. We thank all that entered and I'll be in touch with you all in the next day or so. Re: A New Year's resolution challenge - Trucklover - 05-18-2009 hehe yayyyyy I was one of those that entered but did not complete lol. i got pretty far along with it and completed alot of the goals i had for my CAT Rental Module but did not complete all of them, the money factor played a big role lol Re: A New Year's resolution challenge - Lester Perry - 05-18-2009 Guilty. I haven't even started yet. One reason is other projects. Another is my help is still in school. Such is life. Re: A New Year's resolution challenge - ezdays - 05-18-2009 Lots of us had good intentions, that's the way it normally is with New Years Resolutions... Maybe we should start next year's challenge about September of this year just to get a head start. I'm thinking another build challenge, but something a bit more specific, something that will be a challenge, but not challenge our time or our pocketbooks so much that we put it off until it never gets done. Lets do a structure build challenge, ill do one of the Walthers Steel Series Structures, most likely the Blast Furnace for the challenge hehe |
