I just want to thank Don (ez days) for taking the time to move and post several of my threads to the new academy. Talk about a trip now memory lane!
I keep meaning to drop by more often and will promise to continue to try. This forum however is not dial-up friendly and is the main reason I don't check in more often. Myabe one day Appalachia will join the rest of the world and get DSL 
. Until then I will try to do better! Thanks again Don!

Good to see you here! Yeah dial-up isn't the greatest way to visit here but it's the only way I can afford on my retirement income. Besides, it uses up a lot of the time I would otherwise spend in "frivolous pursuits", so time isn't "wasted".
The Nantahala Midland Box car still gets run on the modules, and I still have fond memories of my visit there.
We're working hard to keep Big Blue the way it started out to be, stop by more often, and enjoy.

Fantastic, great to see you again.
I had fun doing your threads and it indeed was a trip down memory lane and an honor to do it. 
Pete just added some more memories as well. It would be nice to have a "Memory Lane" forum where we could post things like this. Oh yeah, we do, sort of. It's in our Anniversary Celebration section, "Memories, past and present". Stop by and look around. I know it's kind of tough being on dial-up, it seems like the whole world went the way of DSL, we have members posting pictures right from their cell phones, how cool it that? 8-) I understand that there are "smart phones" that do everything but allow you to talk. My cell phone is kind of dumb. It can take pictures but can't do anything with them, but I can talk on it. 
Stop by and see us more often and I hope you're able to get DSL one of these days to make it a lot easier to do just that.

Tyson! A pleasure to hear from you. Hope all is well. It was a treat to see your Academy thread about forested mountain sides. Those tall tree covered hills have always appealed to me. Hope you can stop by again despite the dial-up. I know what you mean. We finally switched to DSL at home a couple of years ago when we couldn't even open our email anymore because of all the flash ads. Thanks for taking the time to say hello!

Glad to see that ol' Nantahala Midland boxcar still racking up some miles. cn nutbar I'm glad you got some use out of that thread!The dial-up isn't so bad if no pictures are involved!

Good to hear from you again! I'm just wondering if there are any satellite connections that would be faster than dial up? Of course if they are available , they are probably pricey!

Hi Russ and thanks. I can get either Hughs Net or thru my sat. TV or wireless (same as cell phone). They start at $70 per month and up plus the cost of the equipment
. The net is not worth that much to me at this time, maybe after the mortgage is paid off.

I have seen the ads for Hughs net on tv, but since I have the Fios fiber optic cable for internet & tv, I didn't check on it. Figured the biggest problem with it would be price. The Southern California Railfan Forums doesn't post pics, instead when pics are uploaded they go in as jpegs or gifs (I don't remember for sure). To see them full size you click on the jpeg and it opens a picture in a separate link. I wonder if such a procedure on the Gauge would make this site more dial up friendly?

Russ a size limit of around 600x400 on pics posted directly or linked in and a limit of 3 per post (not thread) would speed things up considerably.
