What's a good adhesive for Hydrocal castings?

5-minute epoxy works perfectly, white glue should work as well, but I haven’t tried it yet, so I can’t tell for sure.

I have glued plaster back together with both white and/or yellow glues (i.e. "PVA" type glues). Weldbond, Elmers, Lepage are good brands. Just about anything that is suitable for porous materials should work. Something like ACC (super glue) may not work, as the thin types especially will soak in too quick to provide a bond.

Tacky glue might work , it dries clear.

Good ol' Elmer's white glue works best for me...

Thanks, all! I'm up to my who's-this in wall sections and need to begin assembly soon. The one thing I forgot to check was "assemble with what"? I just assumed - always a bsad idea - that plain old white glue would do as it alwasy had in my previous modeling efforts.

And yeah...I know what they say about "assume! Thumbsup

Mountainman, this is hearsay but I will pass it along, it came from a good bunch of guys on the Linka building forum. They recommend the yellow carpenter's glue to glue the molded parts together. I'm still in the casting stage so I cant verify it.

Why don't we try it and compare notes?

Woodland Scenics suggests using their "Scenic Glue" for hydrocal.

I purchased it to glue some HO and N scale casted hydrocal culverts.
It works fine because it is not shiny after drying.
But next time I'll save myself $9.00 and use good old Elmer's glue ( named white glue or all purpose glue or Lepage glue here in Canada ), or latex caulking.

Just go easy on the glue.

Just don't use Walther's Goo. It's a great product for certain applications, but here it just never sets. At least that's my experience assembling a Downtown Deco Franklin Garment building. I may end up rebuilding it when it finds a home on a layout eventually, or just adding gussets and bracing with white or yellow glue.
