Re: Trains on this day in the past: - bdw9535 - 10-30-2014 CSX 2735 pulls a mixed freight through the marsh at Bridgeport, NJ Bruce Re: Trains on this day in the past: - Charlie B - 10-30-2014 Beautiful shot Bruce. 10/30/1977, eastbound at Aley Hill Road (80 21.429W 40 48.852N) Big Beaver Township. Beaver County, Pa Charlie Re: Trains on this day in the past: - Charlie B - 10-31-2014 October 31, 1976. Youngstown, Ohio Charlie Re: Trains on this day in the past: - Charlie B - 11-01-2014 4 years ago along the newly laid line toward Logansport, Pa. Delivering enough rail to lay the last 5 miles. Charlie Re: Trains on this day in the past: - jwb - 11-01-2014 The current standard rail length is 72 feet, is that right? When did this change from 39? Also, who owns the loco in that shot? Will that rail be laid with joint bars, or will it be welded after it's laid? Re: Trains on this day in the past: - e-paw - 11-01-2014 Charlie, did this rail get welded or traditionally bolted. All along the former Lackawanna main near my home the DL has been replacing sections of worn rail and welding it together eliminating the mechanical splices. Re: Trains on this day in the past: - Charlie B - 11-01-2014 This rail was 115 pound RE rail (brand new) (80 foot lengths) and was welded on site. It was installed on steel ties. The locomotive was owned by the Kiski Junction Railroad, a former WSOR unit number 752, now a Youngstown and Southeastern locomotive. This is what it looked like during tamping. Unfortunately the mine is idled due to the EPA rulings on coal. There are over 40 million tons of coal left.[attachment=19268] Charlie Re: Trains on this day in the past: - Charlie B - 11-02-2014 From our apartment window in Schenley, Pa, across the Allegheny river at Lock 5 in 2005 Charlie Re: Trains on this day in the past: - bdw9535 - 11-02-2014 Two shots of ex Conrail locos at Camden, NJ November 2, 2010 and one at Paulsboro the same day. Bruce Re: Trains on this day in the past: - Charlie B - 11-03-2014 November 3, 1976. East Palestine, Ohio Prr has been gone for 8 years but this unit survived. Charlie Re: Trains on this day in the past: - jwb - 11-03-2014 On November 3, 1984 the Pacific Railroad Society ran an excursion from Los Angeles to Barstow using Amtrak equipment. This ran on the then-ATSF Third District of the LA Division, via Fullerton, when at the time the Amtrak trains (Southwest Chief and Desert Wind) normally ran via the Second District via Pasadena. The trackside views in northern Orange County still had citrus groves: A dinged-up U-boat in San Bernardino: The power at the station stop in San Bernardino. Note that Amtrak dug up a Phase II F40 to put on the point: View of the whole train in Barstow: Re: Trains on this day in the past: - Charlie B - 11-04-2014 An Eastbound Chessie System train departing New Castle coming down the lead to the P&LE November, 1978 Charlie Re: Trains on this day in the past: - bdw9535 - 11-04-2014 CSX lashup at the yard in Millville, NJ November 4, 2011.
