Reinhard, one more detail you may wish to install, would be anti-ram bollards or barrier beams, to stop people using cars and pick up trucks to ram through the roller doors. Wallbang Many businesses have them now days, even my local Aldi store has them to protect the alcohol. :o
I'm unsure as to how to suggest making security grills for any window not protected by roller shutters, fine styrene perhaps, just very fiddly, flywire mesh or sieve mesh.

That one is very German one. The prototype is well known by all German railroad fans.

Re: Freelance 2015-1 - faraway - 03-10-2015

The pikestuff kit/bag arrived. Did a quick test with scotch tape This is about my idea how to build the yard of a lumber dealer and/or furniture industry justifying inbound loads of center beam cars .

and a similar first test with Buds Trucking from Walthers

That front side is not visible during operation. This backside is to the front of the layout. I am therefor very relaxed to add details.

and it may not survive the current rebuild phase anyhow....... :o
Anyhow, you are right and I installed a lot of those yellow numbers at visible places.

Reinhard,

Thanks for the info, holding out for Trucks and Stuff to make this one in 1/87th scale http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/734-40001.

Hello Reinhard,

Don´t know if I´ll like the new version or not.I like both types of industries and I have a lot of those Pikestuff kits on my own layout. But that oldstyle brickcanyon was soemthing you don´t see often on a layout...Your work is outstanding and I´ll follow your changes and see what you´ll do with that modern theme....Keep up the fine work,

Cheers,Chris

Re: Freelance 2015-1 - Rscott417 - 03-10-2015

I like the change Reinhard, I think there was a bit over usage of the downtown deco kits. Don't get me wrong you did a fantastic job on all your kits, I thought there were too many abandoned or unoccupied buildings that were all very similar looking. Very interested to see what you come up with next.

Re: Freelance 2015-1 - faraway - 03-10-2015

Well my key problem is the variety of interests vs. the available space.
I had to cut back to industries of realistic dimensions that are supporting a contemporary switching layout. That is the key requirement. All other features are optional if some space is left.

ps. Hiding four industries in a brick canyon without easy access and limited sight was really a silly design. It looks great but is a paint to operate.

Re: Freelance 2015-1 - faraway - 03-13-2015

Got another Pikestuff kit. The wall elements are sufficient now to start the lumber dealer/furniture industry.

Some more details and an appropriate ground cover

Re: Freelance 2015-1 - faraway - 03-14-2015

Walthers beverage distributors will be kit bashed to become another rail served background industry
[Image: IMG_3964_zpsgfneojom.jpg]

but the old buildings did not fit anymore....

All basics done at dinner time. I will continue with the details when the glue has solid set tomorrow.

ps. I saved the beautiful downtown deco flats behind my fiddle yard right in front of me typing this text Smile

Re: Freelance 2015-1 - faraway - 03-16-2015

The Walthers building used for kit bashing has loading docks for rail cars at one side and street cars at the other side. The overall height is a compromise for both kind of use. My only rail served building was to low and out of proportion. The height is increased by 1" (about 4" / 10 cm in total now)
Now back to the details.

May I ask what brand those box-trucks are that you have in the street? On my layout I want to have a few at my fish processing plant for outbound local deliveries.
