That sort of truck is very popular here in Australia, so numerous models would not go astray on a modern era layout.
All the truck hire companies have them, cabinetmakers, furniture stores, lots of delivery and transport companies and the tray versions are popular with hire companies, truck hire companies, and all sorts of tradesmen, and the utility services people when fitted out with lockers and ladder racks.
My question is to those of you who live in the U.S. Just how popular are these sorts of trucks with delivery firms there?
I would like to know for my Effingham RR layout.

I had the same question when I got mine. The US and Canadian board members convinced me that they would fit fine and that they are popular in the US and Canada too.

ebay Australia offers them too. May be that is an easier choice. The Australian seller states they have been originally made by "Herpa" a German company.

Trident has also some small trucks very useful for delivery. I got some of this one on my layout too:

You may try to find them local. Looks like 90113 is the Trident parts number.

I have 2 of these trucks and I was going to remove the wind deflector but there's 2 holes in the roof of the cab so that didn't work, I've seen occasional Mitsubishi box trucks with the deflector here in NY but a large majority of them don't have them. Reinhard how did you remove the sticker/decal on the truck?

I went the other route, and have "Canter" as a Packaging Supplies company - these were fairly commonly available on Ebay a while back - Popping the wind deflector off and adding an A/C refrigeration unit on top of the cab would make an ideal Fish/meat/frozen foods delivery truck. Can I suggest <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.unitmodels.com/category.php?id_category=6&p=3">http://www.unitmodels.com/category.php? ... gory=6&p=3</a><!-- m --> about half way down the page - Dave is a great guy to deal with. The model also comes as an open back delivery truck, frequently used in UK by small builders and similar , that can be converted to a standard flat bed with a bit of work. One of mine has fold back open rear doors after a bit of modification

These trucks are quite popular in the Midwest.I wouldn't mind getting a few for my future HO layout.Problem is I may end up needing a real one fairly soon just to keep all of my modeling projects (Z-N-HO) in one place and out from under my feet. :mrgreen:

Some hours cutting and glueing to get the base structure of the west industry (lumber and furniture). The silo is a ready built Bachmann model. To my surprise is it made of metal and quite heavy. It will be used as a saw dust collector.

Both style of trucks are available in HO and N scale.I am going to buy some of the N scale trucks to update my fleet of Ford Model C cab overs. I wish I could find some in Z scale.
