I came across this video on Youtube <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyYSovIQl4U">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyYSovIQl4U</a><!-- m --> Basically it is a train simulator game called Trainz 12 and it has a Virtual modell railroad element to it to where you can design your own model railroad.I personally haven't used this program yet,but it appears to possibly be used as a tool to create plans for your layout.kinda like a virtuall 3D representation of what your layout would look like when completed.
