RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VIII.. Stop In!!! - Chief Eagles - 03-27-2019 Afternoon. Back from Edgecombe. New Stihl powerhead for string cutter and blade cutter is outstanding. Cut saplings galore. Did there new shooting lanes in new property. Tom, you stoop real low to be in Michigan. Out super early tomorrow and then Chamber dinner tomorrow night. LOOONG day. Have a good one. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VIII.. Stop In!!! - ezdays - 03-28-2019 Good morning, still can't believe that we're in the 80's here, and a few hours drive north they still have snow on the ground. They're saying that the snow pack up in the Snow Bowl outside of Flagstaff still has a 48" pack and they're still skiing there. Got rid of the weeds in the front yard yesterday, and I'm surprised that I don't ache as bad as usual today. I must be getting in shape or something. Can't tell otherwise. Now, the weeds in the backyard, that's another story, I need some serious help with those, some are over 4' high. Time to call the yard guy, the one that I thought had sprayed for weeds the last time he was here. I guess not As you might guess, the HOA frequently checks the front yards for weeds, and they will fine you if you don't keep your yard neat, but unless the weeds in the back are over the fence, they don't seem to care about that. Lots of rain, lots of weeds this year. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VIII.. Stop In!!! - Chief Eagles - 03-28-2019 Chilly good morning. Warming fast. Decided to not go to Human Services Board. Bet everyone is in shock. I have the best attendance record over the years. I think it is time I rested up and stop burning candle at both ends. Slept till 7:45. Got Chamber dinner tonight. Tomorrow, stain deck as finally dried out some. Hope all have a great day. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VIII.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 03-29-2019 Greetings, gang. Cloudy and 33 in the remote reaches of northern Iowa this morning. High for today is supposed to be in the low 40s. Home from my travels. 2500 miles, 41 hours behind the wheel, and averaged over 36 mpg. Had a blast with family in Lake Placid. The drive home yesterday could have been about a half hour shorter but there was an accident blocking traffic. I had to take a different route home. Plans for today include resting and lots of laundry. All stay safe. Tom RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VIII.. Stop In!!! - ezdays - 03-29-2019 And a good Friday morning to ya all. Tried a bit of weeding in the back yard yesterday, got one garbage can full and it didn't make a dent. Went inside and called the yard guy. He'll be here tomorrow. Nice day yesterday, a bit overcast but still hot. Dry heat, humidity was around 8%. Didn't reach 90 yet, but we have another chance next week, so some of those weather-guessers say. I don't mind the 90's, it's just when we get past 110 that I think about heading out of town. But then again, so many folks do just that making it much easier to get around without them clogging up our streets, restaurants and stores. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VIII.. Stop In!!! - Chief Eagles - 03-29-2019 Beautiful day. 69 and climbing. Sunny today and tomorrow. Tom, glad you had a great and safe trip. Don. stay cool. If Wifey ever selects her color, I will stain deck since it is finally dry. Have a good one. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VIII.. Stop In!!! - ezdays - 03-30-2019 Good morning everyone, hope you all have a fun weekend planned. Today, we get our backyard jungle taken care of. I'm not sure how long it'll take to clean out the weeds, but if I had to do it, I'm sure it would take me a couple of months based on how much I got done the other day. Being old is no picnic when there's physical work to be done. Temps are going to stay in the 80's all week, some say we'll hit 90 on Tuesday, but my weather app says it'll be around 84, still, I don't think anyone knows for sure. One thing that I do remember is that when we have a late start to the high temps, we have a very brutal and hot summer. I'm talking about lots of 115 and higher days and new record highs. A story: Back sometime in the 60's when A/C in cars were becoming common, a couple from out of state was driving around on one of our hot summer days and saw lots of people with the windows rolled up in their car, so they decided that must be the way to beat the heat. Unfortunately, they didn't have A/C and all those other cars did and it wasn't too long before they had to be rescued from getting heat exhaustion. Nowadays, if you see someone with their windows down in the summer, that usually means that their A/C is not working. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VIII.. Stop In!!! - Chief Eagles - 03-30-2019 Morning. 61 and climbing. Beautiful day. Hope all have a good one. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VIII.. Stop In!!! - sir james - 03-30-2019 Hello Blue We have lite rain and 40 this morning. My first car with A/C was a new 85 Impala. Yesterday was our 60th anniversary so we went out for a late afternoon meal at Applebees. Our first home was A/C'd with 2 window units. S.J. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VIII.. Stop In!!! - ezdays - 03-30-2019 Congratulations SJ, our 59th is due in June. Our first home (1961) had a swamp cooler which works fine until the humidity gets over 10% late in the summer. Eight years later, we bought one with A/C. I think our first car with A/C was a 1964 Chevvy Super Sport. But I remember traveling from Yuma to Phoenix (mid-50's) one summer with a borrowed small swamp cooler hanging from the driver's window. You had to constantly keep it filled with water or it wouldn't work. Well, it hardly worked anyway, but that was never a fun trip through the desert back then in the summer regardless. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VIII.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 03-30-2019 Greetings, gang. March is definitely not going out like a lamb around here. 38 degrees and 30 mph winds. Gradual warming trend next week culminating (nice word) with a high in the upper 50s by this time next week. Got all the laundry caught up yesterday and made a pot of chili, probably my last one for this season. Today I have done nothing but eat and watch movies. Our first car with a/c was a 73 Impala wagon purchased used in 1976. SJ - congratulations on 60 years. My sympathy to Mrs. SJ. All stay safe. Tom RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VIII.. Stop In!!! - Chief Eagles - 03-31-2019 Morning. 61 and cloudy. Showers around. Not much on menu for today. Probably round up taxes and take to CPA tomorrow. Wifey has some strange estate stuff. Hope all have a great week. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VIII.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 03-31-2019 Greetings, gang. Sunny and cool this morning in the remote reaches of northern Iowa. High for today is supposed to be in the low 40s. Rain chances tomorrow night through Thursday. I've been out and about this morning. Went to Walmart and got some needed groceries and other supplies. The young woman at the check out had a nasty cold and was coughing very close to her had as she scanned my items. When I got home I wiped them all down before putting them away. Also need to clean the change I got back. Forgot to mention yesterday I got a call from my son. He is still cancer free to the point that they are discontinuing scans on his neck. He has a spot on his lung but he had a similar spot last summer which turned out to be an infection, easily taken care of by medication. Up next is a Formula 1 race at 10. No major plans for the day after that. All stay safe. Tom RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VIII.. Stop In!!! - Chief Eagles - 03-31-2019 (03-31-2019, 07:46 AM)FiatFan Wrote: Greetings, gang. Wifey carries little bottles of hand sanitizer. Uses it constantly. Especially after handling money. Also, before we eat at restaurants. She make me put here ketchup on fries after she has cleaned her hands. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VIII.. Stop In!!! - ezdays - 03-31-2019 Good afternoon, getting up there, our van said it was 80 in some spots, 86 in others. I have no confidence in the van's temperature monitor, they changed the software for it a few weeks ago, so we'll see when it starts getting really hot. Before, the hotter it was, the higher the error. At 40° it was close, at 110°, it would read 125. Another story: Years ago, we made temperature probes using thermistors, just like the ones that most vehicles us to measure temperature. I needed fairly good accuracy so I had the vendor fax me the spec sheet. It showed 1.5% accuracy across a range. Great, so we ordered a bunch and programed the microprocessor to fit the temperature/resistance curve. It wasn't long before our customer started to complain about inaccurate readings. Some investigation showed that the decimal point on the fax sheet was a blip in the fax, and it really was only accurate to 15%, not acceptable. We had to replace all the probes and processors to conform to the new thermistor curve. That was before you could get all the info you needed on the Internet. |
