RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - tompm - 01-24-2022

The next thing I decided to try for the first time is adding feeds to the track. I purchased some pre-soldered rail joiners to use. This is in anticipation of future DCC installation.

This is how I installed them.

I installed the rail joiners.

I used an awl to start a hole through the foam board.

Next I used a long screw driver to poke through.

I then inserted a Evergreen tube into the whole.

I inserted a section of the wire into the tube.

Next pull the tube and the wire through the hole.

RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - tompm - 01-24-2022

I finished the roadbed for the outside track and the siding to the Cement Company.

Around the curve.

Connecting to the previous laid roadbed. I did not do the siding for the Coal Yard since I still need the kit in order to figure out a few things with the layout of the buildings and coal trestle.

I now decided to work on the coal yard.

Here is the kit.

To finish the model I need to add decals and weather the structures but that won't happen until we get some better weather and temperatures so I can seal the structures. I have to figure out the grade needed to reach the coal trestle and then either buy something or make something to carry the track. Lastly I need to build a base for the coal yard and determine the configuration since the as recommended placement will not work on the layout.

Next structure is the Golden Valley Canning Company.

I still need to add the decals. I will do that after I can seal the buildings.

Great job, Tom Applause , those buildings look awesome! Applause

RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - tompm - 02-21-2022

Thanks Deano!

Continuing with work on the coal trestle ramp.

Testing the location with the coal trestle.

I mixed a runny solution of plaster of Paris and soaked paper towels in the mixture. I then lace them over the ramp.

Here is the forgotten photos of the weathered office building

For the walls I used Woodland Scenics Timber Walls. I cut the walls to size and lined them up to make sure everything fit.

I painted the walls and weathered them. Next I glued them in place.

Things to do next are add a layer of plaster to the ramp, weather the tracks, paint more of the foam border.

Hi Tom---I've been following your progress from the start---great work all around.I'm curious about those yellow supports/spacers that you have been using during construction to keep walls square---are they available for sale ?

RE: Remaking of the Ridley Keystone & Mountain - doctorwayne - 02-23-2022

You could probably find something similar at Canadian Tire or Princess Auto, Ed, or at Lowes or Home Depot, too.

You could also make your own with a couple pieces of 1"x3", some wood screws, and some rare earth magnets.
