RE: Current Projects - BR60103 - 05-03-2024 Always an interesting problem: for spare parts lying around, do you use models of prototype parts or spare model parts? As of right now it is spare parts I have laying around. I do want to model prototype parts here in the future. RE: Current Projects - cnrglen - 05-05-2024 Good to see you building structures, have you given any thought to painting them? I have thought about it and also weathering them. RE: Current Projects - LiveSteamer - 05-05-2024 Some progress tonight on the mine. Supports on top of the coal pile Timbers and planks to hold up the chute Cross members added to help create a more solid structure The coal chute together and drying The start of the stairs that go to the top of the mine RE: Current Projects - LiveSteamer - 05-06-2024 Did some more work on the mine tonight. Test Fit #1 Test Fit #2 Painted a few things also Laid some rail down as a dry run. This section will also be narrow gauge just like it will be up top. RE: Current Projects - tompm - 05-07-2024 The mine is coming along nicely! RE: Current Projects - LiveSteamer - 05-07-2024 (05-07-2024, 05:23 AM)tompm Wrote: The mine is coming along nicely! Thank you Tom. I did notice in the picture of the mine that there is track laid for the mine carts so that's nothing new. I do how ever want to extend the rail in the building. I'm doing the same with the upper building as well so the track can go right into the mountain. I know I should have painted it before I put it together and I wasn't thinking until afterwards. But with a steady hand and small enough brush, I am getting the job done lol. Now the fun part begins with bending rail and getting a tight enough curve. I am looking into finding mining cars for this. RE: Current Projects - LiveSteamer - 05-10-2024 Just two pictures tonight as I have been busy with other projects around the house. I painted the railing and added it to the walkway and I also cut a hole along the mine cart track so coal can be loaded into hopper cars that way along with at the end of the mine track. RE: Current Projects - LiveSteamer - 05-11-2024 Got this Walthers Scale Test Car in the mail today. I couldn't find any type of scale test car for the C&I but they had to have one since they did have a set of scales at Colver that I'm aware of. If they didn't oh well, this will be one of those fictional projects. lol RE: Current Projects - tompm - 05-11-2024 The mine is looking fine. Did you paint the railing? If so I might send you a couple of mine that need painting. As far as the scale car, it is your railroad and if say they had one then they had one. Thank you tom. Yes I did paint the railing. It showed that you was to bend the railing and I went a different route with it. I ended up cutting the railing into two. The rest is history. I agree with that it's my railroad. It wouldn't be complete without a scale car and it will add some wow factor to those medium sized coal trains. Update on the mine, as of right now pieces are drying that are glued into place. I did have a couple pieces fall off because I didn't use enough glue. So now those pieces will sit over night and tomorrow that way I know for sure they won't fall off again. RE: Current Projects - LiveSteamer - 05-11-2024 Got this far with the scale car since pieces are drying for the mine. I'm trying something different with hand painting this. I want to make it look like the paint is kind of rough looking to the point where it's been painted few times. I don't think it looks to bad in my opinion. The weights are inside and there is two. Just enough to make it somewhat heavy. This will be C&I #46 RE: Current Projects - Amalynn - 05-12-2024 Things are coming along nicely. I was just reading an interesting article about scale test cars in the most recent NMRA magazine (which I also just learned they have one) covering how they are set up, transported, and used. It’s a fascinating topic. |
