Kurt;
Sorry to hear that Bushwick Terminal bit the dust, but regarding the O scale PS box car and the Baldwin S-12 only one word to say WOW!

I appreciate your kind comments. I will keep you informed about the progress I am making on my Baldwin. It is only a small project compared to building a layout, but at least it will get finished.
Larry, I think O scale makes building such an engine much easier than the smaller scales. The details may be more visible, but the size makes them easier to handle as well. When I am detailing HO engines I need tweezers all the time and I cannot count anymore how many parts they sent flying into the orbit. Working on an O scale engine I can grab almost all parts with my fingers – big advantage ![]()

Kurt,
Someone here mentioned that you were posting about your build on another forum. I checked it out and saw that you had a question on the color of SLRS 308. I spoke with a friend who works for the SMS Rail and he said that 308 is their only black S-12. The color is Rustoleum flat black and the lettering is done in a yellow vinyl. If you do the S-12 in the green scheme they use a custom paint mix, but he said any paint that matches Reading Green would be very close. I have always enjoyed your modeling and scratch building abilities (your already aware of the headlight), looking forward to your future progress. Bruce

Bruce, thank you very much for that information. I am not modeling a specific engine, but I want to letter it for SMS, giving it a fictional road number. I am still torn between SLRS 308 and SLRS 9069 as a sample, though at the moment I am leaning towards Brunswik green.
I know that the headlight on my engine is not standard for a Baldwin, but it is the best way for me to model the headlight. I found several pictures of Baldwns with that kind of headlight, so I can justify having it on my engine.

Wonderfull stuff Kurt,
Glad to hear from you again, that Baldwin looks great! Deserves a thread on it's own so it's easy to find! (maybe you did already). Anyways, great to see you're ok! Koos

Ha..!! I thought that logo looked familiar...! Great to see you back ...!!
It's obvious your absence hasn't diminished your modeling skills... Look forward to seeing this project through to the end... ![]()

Hello!. Was this layout finished?, any new project?

So I am resurrecting this thread just as a big thank you to CNW1961! I saved this plan back when it was first published, and I've done a little bit of adaptation and stretching, along with the addition a 2-track staging area that curves off one end. I dry-fit the track, hooked everything up and played with it for a couple of weeks, and this plan is one of the most enjoyable switching layouts I've operated on! My sons and I are looking forward to the process of scenicking this, but for right now I am finishing up valance construction and lighting.
![]() While this plan is in reality located in Brooklyn, through the magic of model railroading I have relocated it to Geneva, NY and it is known as the Seneca Terminal Railroad, a switching area jointly served by Conrail and the D&H ( formerly the LV ). I have a blog thats been updated pretty rarely till this point, but you can check it out here and keep up with the progress - http://senecaterminalrailroad.blogspot.com/ ![]() |
