On October 22, 1983, the Pacific Railroad Society ran an excursion with Amtrak equipment that was the first (and possibly the only) passenger train to run on the SP Palmdale-Colton Cutoff. Here it is before leaving LA Union Station:
The SP added an SD40 helper at West Colton:

You can see that it was a very long train and needed the helper! Here it is at Mormon Rocks:
