I agree that the museum in York is one of the very finest I have ever visited. There are rooms with parts, thousands of part of various locos and rolling stock along with just about anything else you can think of having to do with railroads. It was very interesting to me to be able to walk along the platform just like you were at the local railroad station and look into each car of the royal train.
When I was there, and it's been about 8 years ago, there was also an HO/OO model railroad display in an adjacent building to the York train station. It was very extensive, but also very tired looking. Needed a good dusting
