I would like to object because it is the "usual" and the "normal" that makes at least 95% of our models and layouts and it is very well worth to be shown to others. It is very inspiring to see how others combine their RTR engines and cars on their layouts. How to you combine the "usual" Cornerstone kits? How did you kit bash some very well known DPM kits or how did you paint them? How did you get the space for a gas station or a fast food restaurant while the prototypes use a lot of space?
Please show your ordinary things to ordinary people like me.
Reinhard---well said. This thread is not a contest to see who is the most talented modeller or who has the best models or layouts.I have always appreciated everyone's contributions
Ah, In my case though, I truly have nothing much to offer that I haven't already posted. I do have a few new engines I got, and I suppose I should photograph them, but for the most part, nothing has moved forward. I've been locked down by one issue or another. Even ordinary things are not occurring on my railroad. Indeed, I recently found my catenary poles catastrophically damaged for no reason I can figure, other than someone goofing off near the layout. I recognize that catenary is delicate, but the big poles are much harder to break.
Anyway, I don't remember if I posted any pictures, but this was the pain in my butt city that took up most of my summer. My girlfriend and I built about half the structures, mostly the previous summer.
This time around, we built a few more to fill things in, and installed styrene roads and sidewalks. I also made use of the Walthers plug in Street Lights, though the sidewalk material was PAINFUL to drill through (used Custom Model Railroads' sidewalks since it matched existing pieces we had).
I still need to kitbash a building to conceal the giant streetlight towards the right, and to take up the background on the right hand city block. Some of the sidewalks are weathered, but I'd like to do a little more the next chance I get. Clearly, these streets will need people as well!

Unfortunately, when marking the building locations (I built this all at home, away from its final location at our club), I messed up the location of the main station, since the concourse stayed at the club. I will have to fill in the sidewalk on this side, and cut away sidewalk on the other. Still, this is easy to do with styrene, it just slices off. Nothing is set in stone, I used Scenic cement to make things removable just in case.
