I made five phone calls to modelers in Marion and none could recall passenger trains on the Dayton Branch. Sadly the most knowledgeable Erie, Erie-Lackawanna modeler had a second stroke and is in a nursing home.

Thank you for your help Larry! It seems we have reached a conclusion. 5 modelers, a tower operator testimony, an official Erie Magazine article and 3 decades of timetables all agreeing, hard to beat!! But I can't stop wondering why Erie and CCC&StL bothered to keep their double track agreement for so long when the traffic didn't warrant it...

Now, the last question is knowing what kind of steam power was assigned on the branch in the late 1940s. I contacted ELHS about that. Hope they have some useful information.
