Big Blue has inspired some purchases

[tompm]

I hope I can join in here, as seeing the work going on has inspired me to finally get around to one of my long pushed off projects.

First some background. As everyone is aware, one road I model is the New York Ontario & Western. As far as models go there are plenty of wood reefers, wood boxcars, and coal hoppers. Recently, many locomotives have been released. Steam locomotives have been made by Mantua, IHC, Bachmann Spectrum, and Broadway Limited. NYO&W’s roster of diesel types is limited. They rostered F3, FT, GE 44 tonners, and NW2 locomotives. Stewart, Bowser, and Rapido have made numerous locos. To my knowledge no one has made a NW2. I was lucky enough a while back to obtain a custom Kato NW2 for NYW&O.

You may have noticed one item I have not mentioned. That would a caboose. I searched and searched but they are rarer than hen’s teeth. Way back in late 2019 I found and purchased an Atlas Trainman NYO&W caboose. Since then, nothing. I have, however, acquired several decals sets for NYO&W cabooses.

The other day I stumbled on the best opportunity in my opinion to make a custom NYO&W caboose. I found an unlettered Bowser Pennsylvania N-5c Caboose. The car was brown so no repainting needed. Since I have long given up on being prototypically correct I jumped at the item and purchased it.

It arrived Tuesday.

I dug through my decal sets and pulled this one out.
