When you come down to it, I guess one uses whatever one feels comfortable with. I've used epoxy for so long, it's like something I could do with my eyes closed - I built R/C planes for close to 25 years.... 
Whereas with solder, I tend to get a little messy....
So go for it..!! and post your progress....
