Gus, one night awhile ago I was in the house and heard something bumping around in the garage. I step into the garage, and there is a raccoon up on the layout shelf nosing around! We had left the garage door open, and he wandered right in and climbed up onto the layout. I got a broom and tried to gently encourage him off the layout so none of the structures would be destroyed. Instead of going down, he climbs up the garage door track and gets on top of the garage door next to the ceiling. At that point, I abandoned my efforts, turned off the light and went back in the house, leaving the raccoon to find his own way out.
