But Santa Fe did not keep them for their own use http://yardlimit.railfan.net/rebuilds/ssb/index.html. They retired 84-85 or got sold. LAJ has a long history of getting pressed to use overdue equipment. May be the current mode of operation with "standard" BNSF power out of the LA basin roster is more fair.

ps. I got the second P2K GP60 pair today. The models are from 2002 (last week arrived 1st production batch) and 2003 (2nd production batch) but had only two split axis. Most amazing are the ATSF/BNSF details like antennas (two per roof!), AC and light in the low nose. The much more modern Trainman GP38-2/39-2 got only a BNSF paint but no details. Nice glitch of P2K is the road number 8739 of one engine. That was the only engine at that time that looked different and would therefor require a different shell. A bad choice as the shell is of course unchanged.
