The stock Athearn Mikado, loco only, weighs 12.5 oz., balanced at the rear of the third driver. The modified Mike weighs 16.75 oz., balanced at the mid-point of the driver wheelbase.

I suspect that more than the added 4.25 oz. the moving of the balance point forward of the third driver, was the significant factor in getting better pulling power.
