Conrail Atlantic Region 1976-1978, Volume 1-

THIS BOOK IS WIN. Its as if they reached into my mind and made a book just about what I wanted to know with awesome pictures. Conrail's Atlantic Region (short lived before being changed into the Eastern Region in the 1980s) more or less included the entirety of northern New Jersey, including the Northeast Corridor all the way past Trenton.

The book also reaches out west from the ports of New Jersey to Allentown and the Bethlehem steel plant on the CNJ, LV and Reading, and north up the ex New York Central River line.

The author included many interesting stories of electric freights on the NEC, as he was apparently the Supervisor of Train Operations in the very early years of Conrail, working in the "40 Office" In New York Penn. It focuses on the freight aspects of Conrail, but does stop and mention the commuter operations in the area as well.

Ironically, I also recently received an Atlantic Region Employee timetable, dated for 1980. I'm going to try and dig up an older one to match my other Amtrak timetables.
