painting Pennsylvania steam locos
#4
It is my contention that since about the first world war the PRR painted all locomotives DGLE. The smokebox was either graphite or silver I can't remember. The cab roof was an oxide red color, as was the tender deck. Running gear was black, siderods and valve gear unpainted. Some of this changed around WWII.

This only accurate to the best of my knowledge, and if you ask anyone that knows me the best of my knowledge isn't very good. Icon_lol But one thing is for sure, what you would consider modern PRR steam (classes A-T inclusive) was definitely painted DGLE.
