Trainnut - Google "white mountain scenic railroad arizona" and you should come up with a few pictures, and a little info. There was a steam excursion that ran on Apache tracks from McNary to Big Lake from the mid 60s to the mid 70s. From what I read, the scenic train did not own the line, and when some track damage occured near Big Lake, Apache railway abandoned the end of the line and they shortened the ride. I think the sawmill closed at McNary in the mid 70s, dooming the Scenic train.
There is a locomotive roster in the back of Myrick's "Railroads of Arizona" volume 3, and volume 4 covers the Santa Fe line, and may cover branches and shortlines that connect to the Santa Fe. You can probably find the right of way on USGS topo quads.
