The design of the bunks are from a photo that I barrowed of lNE #582s interior from about 1943/44. Only one side was clearly shone, the bunk was just a flat surface with a pad on it. I used it to get the cabinet shapes and locations, It's the one with the 2 large cabinets on the sides and draws in thew middle. The other one is a best guess I made from the shot. I don't know if it is standard practice or not, but 582 seams to be the oddball in the bunch. I'm not trying to get an exact match to the prototype , just good enough to make people think it is 8-) .
PS; I should have explained that I made the pads from a paper towel folded over a few times and painted Roof Brown. All the pics I've seen of the insides were black & white so even my colors are just what I thought looked right.
