Wahl oil is an excellent lubricator and track cleaner -- but it can cause major problems if any of your locos have traction tires!
I found out the hard way as I have a couple locos with traction tires. The Wahl oil expands the tires so that they become loose & come off. I can quite a problem with one of my British locos. I had to search on the web to find a suitable retailer in the UK that sold replacement tires for my particular loco. Once I found this source, my problem was solved. But this loco had been out of commission for close to a year while I was researching this.
Basically, if I do decide to lubricate any locos with Wahl oil -- or clean track with it -- I "banish" my locos with traction tires from the layout until I know I've cleaned up all the oil.
