I'd be more suspicious of gearing between the motor and the trucks. I've had the ends of driveshafts disintegrate, gearing in the trucks "unmesh", etc. Could also be lubrication and/or gunk buildup in the same components. A good cleaning and inspection, maybe a full disassembly and reassembly would be what I'd try before resorting to a new motor.
