There is a grade out of town to the west that is about a mile long and a 0.88% grade (approximate rise of 10.5 inches per 100 feet) The track speed at this time was 10 MPH and that was stretching it, so helpers were not uncommon here. Here is a revised copy of the local track chart.

Talk about a freshly dipped paint job! That had to be right out of the paint booth for that SDP45.

9/09/2013. If the front of this locomotive had a shark nose it would be beautiful, from the cab back it looks like a sharknose. I don't like the design of the new passenger locomotives at all but I did take a few photos of them over the years. Enon Valley heading west.

In model railroading, there are between six and two hundred ways of performing a given task.
Most modellers can get two of them to work.

David, the Amtrak train was an extra called the art train and the cars were private cars.
This one is from 9/10/2015 and the train is NS local C10 approaching the Broadway crossing in East Liverpool, Ohio

On the final journey, 9/12/1977. I wish I had been able to get to Youngstown during the week to see these working. Alcos are my favorite locomotive.
Nothing pulls like these old ALCo's did (except Baldwins) and they had great sound.

The location is actually the old P&LE station in West Pittsburgh, Pa. It is owned and maintained by the
Beaver-Lawrence Railway Historical Society and they try to mow every Monday. It is between two mainline CSX tracks.
