8/31/1977 Westbound at the Market Street Crossing in East Palestine, Ohio. The Ford dealer was Neil, and I worked there from 1974 until 1983 as parts manager. I didn't miss much as far as seeing trins because I had a window facing the tracks.

Those new SD40-2's had to be a huge improvement over locomotives held together with bailing wire and chewing gum... So great that you got that job at the dealership - we are certainly reaping the benefits of your collection.

I knew the head locomotive mechanic at Conway and he actually preferred the Alco Centurys. He said he could have a head off before the water was drained. I often wonder how many good locomotives were scrapped rather than repaired simply because of the influx of government money for new locomotives. Many survived that were sold to other railroads. ALCo's were lost because of lack of parts. My S-1 could out pull a GP7 and a GP15

Charlie: Can I say thanks (probably on behalf of the whole group) for all the pictures you took and even making records of where and when you took them.

In model railroading, there are between six and two hundred ways of performing a given task.
Most modellers can get two of them to work.

Thanks David and Jim. It is nice to know they are appreciated. I took video for several years 86-95 and I am hoping to be able to share some stills from them. They are low resolution (640x480) so I am trying to find a good AI program that can enlarge and enhance them.
Todays offering is an eastbound NS train at McRoberts Road which is just east of the Ohio-Pa state line in Darlington Township, Beaver County, Pa. 9/4/2016

For me personally, it's been so great seeing so many pictures from the time that I model. So lucky to have found this site and to see Charlie's daily offerings - they are a treasure!

Charlie,
I agree with David, Jim, & TMo. I do very much appreciate and enjoy your photos.
And with regard to your Aug 31 pic,
I am once again stunned to see clean boxcars without graffitti.
It is the world that I remember.
