There is a Youtube video talking about what went into the old HBO intro in the 80s. I think there are some features there that you guys might be able to appreciate.

That's too cool, I remember when HBO first came out when I was a kid, and saw the intro for the first time. I was blown away, but at the same time, wondering "Why don't they have a railroad on that model? They went to all that trouble and no trains??"
Thanks for posting that, that made my crappy day.

I remember seeing the program about the production of the intro when it first came out. It was quite a piece of work for it's time. I suppose today they just CGI everything.

There are still some, who will use models instead of CGI. Peter Jackson's "bigatures" in his LOTR movies, were impressive.
The thing about models is they are real physical objects, and they catch the light in ways that CGI designers would have to really struggle with.
On the other hand................instead of painted backdrops, LCD panels, with CGI scenery, and moving water would be cool additions to modules.
