Tsunami heavy steam sound

There have been several requests for sound decoder recommendations, I for one concider Soundtraxx Tsunami decoders to be the best....pricey ? you'betcha !..... but well worth the extra bucks.
In the short clip below because its installed in a older brass engine there was a slight problem with dirty track but once she got rolling the I thought the sound was great! Now i just need lower the sound levels to a more realistic setting.

Great video Empirebuilder. If you play with the CV for the chuff rate on a Heavy you can get the proper seperate chuff for the articulated and get offset rod sound. It should sound like or close to 2 different locos chuffing along. I put one of those decoders in a Bachmann 2-8-4 for a friend and it sounds great . On light and medium decoders I set the chuff rate up in the 150 to 180 range .But on the Heavy the wheels would turn once at that and I would get the sound of 2 locos at once . Reading the manuel it says the higher settings are for Articulated locos so that one I set down in the 35 to 50 range. Just play with the Cvs .Its fun seeing what it will do . Have fun . MartyG

There are a lots of CV's to work with on a Tsunami. You should set up the decoder so it will sound like a Articulated engine. Does the loco have dual air pumps or a single as that can ge set also by changing the CV value in CV 112, There is also a CV for chaning the slip rate on the Articulated loco's. CV116 will set the chuff rate.
There are so many CV's on a Tsunami your best friend is to use Decoder-Pro. Will make setting up a locomotive much faster.
Looks like in the video you are having some problem with the loco shutting down at times. Try add a much larger capacitor to the decoder.
Replace the 220 Uf capacitor with a 2200 Uf capacitor. You might want to look at using resistor- diode circuit to limit the inrush current if there are lots of sound units on the layout too.

looks like The 2200uf capacitor is going to be a must also the resistor-diode circuit as there are getting to be quite a number of sound equipped engines on our layout....as to the cap.they come in several different varietys,2200 Uf 16v.... 2200 Uf 25v etc. i would assume the 2200uf 25v is the one i would want,not being a electrical wizard do that sound about right

Did get around to changing some of the sound settings,volume, articulation , rod clank and such,kinda blew though and forgot to checkout the steamboat whistle that would be more appropreate for this engine,right now its set for Frisco 1522.....next time! sound a little better?
