Atlas Shrugged Movie
#16
Paulman Wrote:Is it the most famous train-related novel of all time? Probably. Does it feature the world's longest dialog? Definitely. The first installment coming to theaters next year.

It's come off as a kind of thrown together project, so wonder if it will be any good. I'll be interested to see how it updates the novel's 50s-era rail transportation economics to the modern day.

Thanks to today's CGI, they don't have to.

Who says you need overhead wires for an electric locomotive? For all intents and purposes judging by the photo and the scenario suggested the story appears to moved into a hypothetical near future situation. The subway train I take into work everyday doesn't use overhead wires. Who is to say that in this hypothetical future of rail transportation a way to implement high speed rail without the need for overhead wiring hasn't been achieved? In fact I'm pretty sure it's already been done.

Who says the movie has to based in the same time period as when the book was written? While I can understand the need for nostalgia based on the time frame for when the book was written, the fact of the matter is this movie more then likely is not being made for the rail fan or train aficionados. It has been produced to reach a wider audience who may not "get" a movie based on a fictional past. To use gleaming F Units doesn't make sense from a box office dollars and cents point of view.

This not the first time Hollywood has messed with a time period and the plot to suit current events and present day scenarios. They did the same thing with the Bourne Trilogy. Which IMHO were awesome movies. This movie could turn out to be very good... it could also be horrible. Icon_lol

"Lord of the Rings" used a lot of large scale models in the three films, and combined them with CGI characters. A lot of the post production "cleaning up" of the shots was done with computer graphics/programs.

You got that right. For instance, here's what that shot of the bridge looks like now.

CGI - means I will have to sit this one out. I'm like one of those kids in Japan who watched pokemon and had seizures, and don't do well with CGI. I'm not sure what it is. I did fine with the original star wars, but when they released the first of the new trilogy, I got a massive headache and upset stomach when I saw it, and never went back to see the other two. Same goes for video games. When they switched from the 2-d games like the original super mario brothers to the games with more advanced graphics, I could no longer play due to dizziness.

I tried playing Doom a couple years back...several years removed from my last playing of a 1st person shooter (Halo 2 right when it came out)...and I couldn't get over how it made me dizzy and sick to my stomach.

An interesting note about Ayn Rand and an Atlas Shrugged movie with plenty of rail scenes: Alan Greenspan was a part of Ayn's discussion groups. As a little boy, Alan Greenspan dreamed of two things: being a telegraph operator and traveling to the various places listed on the railroad time tables he collected. I hope he makes a Cameo in the movie...

Part 1? Is this going to be a two part story line or the obligatory trilogy? Either way, it does look interesting.

The book was written in 3 parts, so I suspect if the movie does well, there will be two more to match.

BUMMER!!!

Since it is an "Indie" film and will not have the benefit of a Studio Release and Distribition, it looks like I may have to drive all the way across Alligator Alley to see it over on the east coast!

I hate going over there! That's a long, dangerous drive for just an "over and back" in a day ... not a drive to undertake if you are tired! And it always seems to be pouring rain in the middle somewhere!!! [Major dumping of rain like you've never seen! Coming down so hard you can't see your own vehicle's hood!]

It seems like there's at least one major accident a week on "The Alley," often with a vehicle upside down in a canal, and that's often means a fatality.

While pulling a vehicle out of a canal recently, they found a van in the same spot that had been missing for almost two years. There were two or three sets of remains in it.

That said, south Florida is getting ALL of the Florida shows thus far, so you're fairly well-positioned, all things considered.
